Richmond post of the American Legion, Post 1, known as the John J. Wicker Jr. Post. Part of the Eleventh District of the Department of Virginia. First American Legion post chartered in Virginia, organized April 16, 1919 at John Marshall High School in Richmond; the post acquired its historic permanent home at 2315 West Grace Street in 1923 and dedicated Legion Square in Richmond's Riverview Cemetery as a burial site for World War I veterans. Reported 32 members to the Department in June 2026. Members are wartime veterans who support fellow veterans and their families, run youth and Americanism programs, and take part in community service.

How to join
Membership is open to veterans who served on active duty during a recognised war era and were honourably discharged, and to those still serving. Contact the post by email for details.
