American Legion Post 1097

Danville post of the American Legion, Post 1097, known as the Dan River Post. Part of the Sixth District of the Department of Virginia. Chartered in 1980. Maintains a uniformed Honor Guard and, in partnership with the City of Danville, displays a WWII-era gun as a memorial to veterans of all wars and conflicts. Reported 253 members to the Department in June 2026. Members are wartime veterans who support fellow veterans and their families, run youth and Americanism programs, and take part in community service.
