Abingdon post of the American Legion, Post 12, known as the Washington County Post. Part of the Eighth District of the Department of Virginia. Chartered July 19, 1919, one of the district's earliest posts; membership collapsed to just four paid members during an early-1920s slump before a 1924 membership drive rebuilt it to roughly seventy. Reported 54 members to the Department in June 2026. Members are wartime veterans who support fellow veterans and their families, run youth and Americanism programs, and take part in community service.

Schedule: 1st Tuesday of each month, 7:00 PM, at the Washington County Moose Lodge
Location: Washington County Moose Lodge, Abingdon, VA
How to join
Membership is open to veterans who served on active duty during a recognised war era and were honourably discharged, and to those still serving. Call the post for details.
