American Legion Post 135

Glade Spring post of the American Legion, Post 135, known as the Rumley-Thompson Post. Part of the Eighth District of the Department of Virginia. Organized April 7, 1921 by charter member A. Karl Mock and named for Private M. A. Rumley and Corporal M. McKinley Thompson, two local men who died of World War I wounds; by 1922 it had grown to 68 paid members in a town of roughly 1,500 people. Reported 24 members to the Department in June 2026. Members are wartime veterans who support fellow veterans and their families, run youth and Americanism programs, and take part in community service.
