Lorton post of the American Legion, Post 162. Part of the Seventeenth District of the Department of Virginia. Chartered on November 3, 1938, Post 162 has served the Lorton community for over eight decades and sponsors a Legion Baseball program for local youth. The post rents its hall out. Reported 269 members to the Department in June 2026. Members are wartime veterans who support fellow veterans and their families, run youth and Americanism programs, and take part in community service.

How to join
Membership is open to veterans who served on active duty during a recognised war era and were honourably discharged, and to those still serving. Details are on the post website.
