Springfield post of the American Legion, Post 176. Part of the Seventeenth District of the Department of Virginia. Founded in 1955 by Legionnaire Edwin Dentz, Post 176 is the largest American Legion post in Virginia by membership and runs its own Warrior Cafe serving breakfast and lunch to the public. The post rents its hall out. Reported 1,671 members to the Department in June 2026. Members are wartime veterans who support fellow veterans and their families, run youth and Americanism programs, and take part in community service.

How to join
Membership is open to veterans who served on active duty during a recognised war era and were honourably discharged, and to those still serving. Details are on the post website.
