American Legion Post 18

Marion post of the American Legion, Post 18. Part of the Seventh District of the Department of Virginia. Chartered in 1919. Nearly dissolved by 1923 for lack of a permanent meeting hall, the post secured a former fraternal-lodge headquarters that year, chartered an American Legion Riders motorcycle chapter in October 2023, and in late 2025 held a public ceremony retiring hundreds of worn U.S. flags. Reported 87 members to the Department in June 2026. Members are wartime veterans who support fellow veterans and their families, run youth and Americanism programs, and take part in community service.
