Arlington post of the American Legion, Post 194, known as the Dorie Miller Post. Part of the Seventeenth District of the Department of Virginia. Chartered in 1946 by a group of Black veterans a year before the U.S. military was officially desegregated, Post 194 honors Navy Cross recipient Dorie Miller; Arlington County proclaimed October 12 'Dorie Miller Day' in 2022 in recognition of the post. Reported 49 members to the Department in June 2026. Members are wartime veterans who support fellow veterans and their families, run youth and Americanism programs, and take part in community service.

How to join
Membership is open to veterans who served on active duty during a recognised war era and were honourably discharged, and to those still serving. Reach the post through its Facebook page.
