Petersburg post of the American Legion, Post 2, known as the J. Thompson Wyatt Post. Part of the Fourth District of the Department of Virginia. Chartered in 1919. Members planted an avenue of trees along Wythe Street in Petersburg, each marked with a bronze plaque honoring a local soldier killed in World War I, and the post has held annual Memorial Day services at Blandford Church since 1923. The post rents its hall out. Reported 249 members to the Department in June 2026. Members are wartime veterans who support fellow veterans and their families, run youth and Americanism programs, and take part in community service.

How to join
Membership is open to veterans who served on active duty during a recognised war era and were honourably discharged, and to those still serving. Details are on the post website.
