Winchester post of the American Legion, Post 21, known as the Conrad Hoover Post. Part of the Fifteenth District of the Department of Virginia. One of the largest Legion posts in Virginia with more than 400 members; founded August 22, 1919 as Robert Y. Conrad Post and renamed in September 1946 to honor both Conrad (Winchester's first WWI death) and Charles Hoover (killed in North Africa in WWII). Reported 422 members to the Department in June 2026. Members are wartime veterans who support fellow veterans and their families, run youth and Americanism programs, and take part in community service.

How to join
Membership is open to veterans who served on active duty during a recognised war era and were honourably discharged, and to those still serving. Contact the post by email for details.
