Gretna post of the American Legion, Post 232. Part of the Sixth District of the Department of Virginia. Unveiled a Purple Heart Monument on August 7, 2016 (Purple Heart Day), honoring nine living Purple Heart recipients from the Gretna area. Reported 76 members to the Department in June 2026. Members are wartime veterans who support fellow veterans and their families, run youth and Americanism programs, and take part in community service.

How to join
Membership is open to veterans who served on active duty during a recognised war era and were honourably discharged, and to those still serving. Reach the post through its Facebook page.
