American Legion Post 243

Wise post of the American Legion, Post 243, known as the Darrell "Shifty" Powers Post. Part of the Eighth District of the Department of Virginia. Named for Darrell "Shifty" Powers, the Wise County-area paratrooper of Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, who was portrayed in HBO's Band of Brothers and died in 2009. Reported 95 members to the Department in June 2026. Members are wartime veterans who support fellow veterans and their families, run youth and Americanism programs, and take part in community service.

Schedule: 1st Thursday of each month, 6:00 PM
Location: Meets at The Inn at Wise, Wise, VA
How to join
Membership is open to veterans who served on active duty during a recognised war era and were honourably discharged, and to those still serving. Call the post for details.
