Dayton post of the American Legion, Post 27. Part of the Fourteenth District of the Department of Virginia. Post 27 owns and led a restoration fundraising campaign (275 letters mailed to local businesses) for the historic 'Lady Liberty' statue at Main and Liberty Streets in Harrisonburg, and ran a monthly phone buddy-check system for isolated veterans during the pandemic. Reported 129 members to the Department in June 2026. Members are wartime veterans who support fellow veterans and their families, run youth and Americanism programs, and take part in community service.

How to join
Membership is open to veterans who served on active duty during a recognised war era and were honourably discharged, and to those still serving. Reach the post through its Facebook page.
