American Legion Post 280

Chesapeake post of the American Legion, Post 280, known as the Great Bridge Post. Part of the Second District of the Department of Virginia. Chartered in 1946. Operates 'Pub 280' as an on-site social quarters and states that 100% of funds it raises go back to the community as scholarships and veteran assistance. The post rents its hall out. Reported 527 members to the Department in June 2026. Members are wartime veterans who support fellow veterans and their families, run youth and Americanism programs, and take part in community service.

Schedule: 2nd Thursday of each month, 7:00 PM (general membership meeting); Executive Committee meets 1st Tuesday, 7:00 PM

How to join
Membership is open to veterans who served on active duty during a recognised war era and were honourably discharged, and to those still serving. Details are on the post website.
