Colonial Heights post of the American Legion, Post 284. Part of the Eleventh District of the Department of Virginia. Named 'best civic organization' in the Tri-Cities People's Choice Awards; runs weekly Monday-night Bingo, monthly line-dancing socials, a Legion Riders motorcycle chapter, and a baseball athletics program. Reported 815 members to the Department in June 2026. Members are wartime veterans who support fellow veterans and their families, run youth and Americanism programs, and take part in community service.

How to join
Membership is open to veterans who served on active duty during a recognised war era and were honourably discharged, and to those still serving. Details are on the post website.
