Purcellville post of the American Legion, Post 293, known as the Shelbourne Parish Post. Part of the Sixteenth District of the Department of Virginia. Hosts its own Marine Corps League detachment, Legion Riders chapter, and Sons of the American Legion (SAL) unit alongside its Auxiliary, each with a separate linked Facebook page. Reported 507 members to the Department in June 2026. Members are wartime veterans who support fellow veterans and their families, run youth and Americanism programs, and take part in community service.

How to join
Membership is open to veterans who served on active duty during a recognised war era and were honourably discharged, and to those still serving. Details are on the post website.
