American Legion Post 45

MecklenburgMilitaryFraternal

Clarksville post of the American Legion, Post 45. Part of the Fifth District of the Department of Virginia. Named for Sgt. Earle Davis Gregory of Chesterfield County, who on Oct. 8, 1918 — the same day Post 32's Jack Garland was killed, both in the 29th 'Blue and Gray' Division — single-handedly captured a German machine gun, a 77mm mountain howitzer, and 19 enemy soldiers near the Bois-de-Consenvoye, becoming the first Virginian awarded the Medal of Honor in WWI. The post's Facebook photos show it has organized recreational fishing trips on Kerr Lake for disabled veterans. Reported 31 members to the Department in June 2026. Members are wartime veterans who support fellow veterans and their families, run youth and Americanism programs, and take part in community service.
