Chatham post of the American Legion, Post 47. Part of the Sixth District of the Department of Virginia. Holds an annual Memorial Day commemoration ceremony at the Pittsylvania County Historical Center, the former Chatham train depot on Whitehead Street, per the Chatham Star Tribune. Reported 18 members to the Department in June 2026. Members are wartime veterans who support fellow veterans and their families, run youth and Americanism programs, and take part in community service.

How to join
Membership is open to veterans who served on active duty during a recognised war era and were honourably discharged, and to those still serving. Call the post for details.
