Moneta post of the American Legion, Post 62, known as the Smith Mountain Lake Post. Part of the Tenth District of the Department of Virginia. Placed a flag retirement/disposal repository at Mitchell's Marina/Bridgewater Plaza and a veterans memorial marker at the Moneta/Smith Mountain Lake library, and regularly volunteers for parking at the Bridgewater Plaza Sunshine Daydream Festival. Reported 134 members to the Department in June 2026. Members are wartime veterans who support fellow veterans and their families, run youth and Americanism programs, and take part in community service.

How to join
Membership is open to veterans who served on active duty during a recognised war era and were honourably discharged, and to those still serving. Details are on the post website.
