South Boston post of the American Legion, Post 8. Part of the Fifth District of the Department of Virginia. Operates a community swimming pool and sponsors youth baseball (including a registered American Legion Baseball team); its public Facebook group has drawn roughly 1,000 local members who treat the post as an informal neighborhood gathering spot. Reported 186 members to the Department in June 2026. Members are wartime veterans who support fellow veterans and their families, run youth and Americanism programs, and take part in community service.

How to join
Membership is open to veterans who served on active duty during a recognised war era and were honourably discharged, and to those still serving. Contact the post by email for details.
