Beaverdam post of the American Legion, Post 90. Part of the Thirteenth District of the Department of Virginia. Hosts the annual Hanover Patrick Henry Oratorical Contest for local students, most recently a 2026 edition listed on its own site. Reported 56 members to the Department in June 2026. Members are wartime veterans who support fellow veterans and their families, run youth and Americanism programs, and take part in community service.

How to join
Membership is open to veterans who served on active duty during a recognised war era and were honourably discharged, and to those still serving. Details are on the post website.
