GFWC Wakefield Woman's Club

Woman's club serving Wakefield in Sussex County. Chartered in 1940. Funds two scholarships annually for graduating seniors from proceeds of an annual calendar-sales fundraiser, and supports the Wakefield Foundation, Troxler Library, Wakefield Fire Department, Waverly and Ivor Rescue Squads, Wakefield Baseball, Boy Scout Troop 24, and House of Hope. Members do small service projects at meetings (writing cards to nursing-home residents, filling blessing bags for the Sheriff's office, encouraging notes on school-supply pencils). The General Federation of Women's Clubs is a volunteer service organization founded in 1890, and GFWC Virginia federates its clubs across eight districts of the Commonwealth.
