South Boston post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 8243, known as the Halifax County Post. Part of District 5 of the Department of Virginia. Members are veterans of overseas service who support fellow veterans and their families, run the Voice of Democracy and Patriot's Pen youth essay contests, and take part in community service.

How to join
Membership is open to United States veterans and serving members who earned a campaign medal for overseas service, served in Korea, or received hostile fire or imminent danger pay. Contact the post by email for details.
