Gloucester post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 8252, known as the Francis J. Mellar, Jr. Post. Part of District 1 of the Department of Virginia. Its senior muster date is 20 February 1957. Post 12201 of Kilmarnock consolidated into it in August 2023. The post runs a canteen. Members are veterans of overseas service who support fellow veterans and their families, run the Voice of Democracy and Patriot's Pen youth essay contests, and take part in community service.

How to join
Membership is open to United States veterans and serving members who earned a campaign medal for overseas service, served in Korea, or received hostile fire or imminent danger pay. Call the post for details.
