A 1928 movie palace in the heart of Carytown, the Byrd Theatre rents its grand Reinhart Auditorium for film screenings, festivals, corporate events, live performances, weddings, and other private gatherings. The single auditorium seats up to 936 guests beneath a vaulted, hand-painted ceiling and the Byrd's famous chandelier — 18 feet tall, two and a half tons, with around 5,000 Czechoslovakian crystals and 500 bulbs that alternate between red, blue, green, and amber. A red velvet stage curtain, gilded proscenium, and the original Mighty Wurlitzer pipe organ that still rises from the orchestra pit before screenings make every event feel like an opening night. Smaller-scale options include Movie Party rentals for groups of 40 or fewer and Gaming Parties for groups of 20 or fewer. The historic marquee on Cary Street can be rented for personalized messages — a memorable touch for premieres, proposals, and celebrations.

The Byrd Theatre Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 2001 to preserve and operate the Byrd Theatre — a National Historic Landmark and Virginia Historic Landmark single-screen movie palace that opened on Christmas Eve, 1928 on Cary Street in Richmond's Carytown district. Ticket sales, rentals, donations, and grants fund year-round programming and the ongoing restoration of the building.
