Historic Polegreen Church rents its grounds in eastern Hanover County for weddings, reunions, picnics and small meetings. A white steel frame outlines the church on its original site, and couples marry inside it. The church began in 1743 as one of four reading houses licensed in Virginia, the colony's first legal places of worship outside the Church of England. The Rev. Samuel Davies preached there from 1747 to 1759. The building burned in 1864 during the fighting at Totopotomoy Creek and was never rebuilt. Receptions are held under a tent on the lawn beside the frame. The Visitor Center has restrooms and a Board Room that seats 15. For wedding parties, the Foundation also offers Prospect Hill, an 1830s farmhouse five minutes away, as a place to get ready. Wedding packages run from $595 to $2,395, with options for weddings of fewer than 50 guests.
