The Robinson Theater in Church Hill rents its main hall, with a stage, a dance floor and a prep kitchen, for receptions, parties and community events. Tables and chairs are provided. The theater opened in 1937 as a movie house for the neighborhood's Black residents and is named for the Richmond-born dancer Bill "Bojangles" Robinson. It closed in the 1980s and stood empty for nearly twenty years. A $1.2 million rehabilitation restored its Art Deco front and marquee, and it reopened in 2009 as a community arts center. The center books rentals around its own classes, painting nights, block parties and fall festival.
