Washington Heritage Museums rents the gardens and porches of four historic properties in downtown Fredericksburg for small weddings, receptions and parties. Each holds up to 50 guests. The Mary Washington House, the home of George Washington's mother, has a formal garden, a lawn with room for a tent, and two porches. The Rising Sun Tavern, built about 1760 by his brother Charles, has a large back lawn, a grape arbor, and a brick courtyard that serves as a small dance floor. The garden of the Hugh Mercer Apothecary Shop suits cocktail parties, and the boxwood gardens of St. James' House are divided into small outdoor rooms. A short museum tour comes with every rental, and the museum shop can open during events at the Mary Washington House.
